About this event

A panel on how automated disinformation, synthetic media and algorithmically sorted information spaces are redrawing political power — and what that does to democratic debate, security and public order. The line-up is the reason to go: Alexander Libman of SCRIPTS at Freie Universität Berlin, Jakob Hensing of the Global Public Policy Institute, Bundestag member Roderich Kiesewetter of the CDU, and Julia Smirnova of CeMAS, which monitors disinformation campaigns professionally. Gesa Ufer moderates. It is the second instalment of the Berlin Science Week series AI, Power and Societal Control, and it deliberately mixes political science, policy practice and parliamentary politics rather than keeping to one of them. Free, registration required. A T-coil induction loop is available. Why go: most AI-and-democracy panels in Berlin pair two academics with a journalist. This one has a sitting MP and a working disinformation analyst in the same room, which is where the argument gets concrete. Best for policy, security and trust-and-safety people.
