About this event
A four-hour hands-on workshop at Bristol Hackspace on repairing and modifying the ghetto blaster: Bluetooth upgrades, tape and playback-speed modifications, and the research behind keeping these machines running.
Run by Repair Acts as part of its Celebrating Repair Cultures programme, with audio engineer Robert Leadbeater and artist Teresa Dillon. The afternoon is structured: 12:00 gathering, lunch and discussion; 13:00 sharing research, upgrades and mods; 14:00 group discussion and play; wrap-up from 15:30 to 16:00.
Paid, twenty pounds, which the organiser says covers materials, refreshments and lunch. Unit B, Meridian Studios, Queen Victoria Street, BS2 0QR. Ground floor but not wheelchair accessible, and no refunds. No prior skills are listed as required.
Why go: few rooms in Bristol let you open up a real device alongside an audio engineer and a researcher who study repair as a practice. Worth the afternoon if you build hardware, care about repairability and circular design, or want hackspace company while you solder.
